Heart of the Dungeonlands
The autograpple is a clever mobility device using spring operated fire and reeling mechanisms. To get the necessary force for even an unarmored person requires a fairly large mechanism and harness worn around the torso, though it will fit over thinner armors and pull a person carrying a light enough load. It also requires a high degree of coordination or landings could get messy, causing large amounts of fall damage on impact, not to mention falling off of the desired target and perhaps suffering even more fall damage.
The maximum range of the standard autograpple is 30’, and the hook it uses is not suited to anything other than catching on rough terrain or outcroppings. It requires a move action to move to the destination (up to 30’ away), and requires another move action to reload the mechanisms. Reloading provokes an attack of opportunity. Detaching the grapple is a swift action once you have reeled yourself to it. Otherwise, it is typically a move action to dislodge and reel back in to reload.
While it is much more limited than most magical or supernatural forms of flight, it is purely mechanical and works inside of anti-magic fields and the like.
